Mezzanines in TH – choose your way up

A practical way to increase living space in tiny houses with a standard floor area of 15-17 sqm is to build a mezzanine floor. When designing small living spaces, we strive to make every design element functional and thoughtful. In past projects, we have tested several proven design solutions for mezzanine access.

Here are a few of them:

Stairs leading to the mezzanine

A standard solution that works well in many small houses is combining two functions: access to the bedroom and capacious storage space. Drawers and shelves hidden in the steps fulfill their role, especially in the closet area or kitchen, for example, as a small pantry.

Sliding / folding ladder

A simple solution that takes up little space and is mobile: a sliding ladder mounted on a guide in the form of a bar. The appropriate angle of the steps allows you to climb comfortably to the top. Especially practical in houses with two mezzanines, where every square meter of free space counts.

Stairs foldable onto the wall

A customized folding stairs was designed for a family of four with a bit of structural calculation, a couple of lightweight and sturdy boards, and some sturdy hinges. The parents of two children were seeking a solution that would provide them with added privacy in the mezzanine area of the house while also preserving space for movement downstairs. Folding the stairs against the wall prevents uninvited little guests from accessing the upper level.

Steps with storage boxes

Our customers often use the steps leading to the mezzanine as storage boxes. The bottom step is a spacious drawer that can hold an entire suitcase of possessions, while the four steps above it can store a surprising amount of useful home equipment.

Mobile module: steps / shelves on wheels

One simple solution, many possibilities! The wooden structure on wheels is not only steps to the mezzanine, but also shelves and storage space organizer, and if necessary — also a work area in the form of a table-desk. All this to maximize the use of the available space at home in an ingenious and practical way.
